Mississauga’s Leading Beauty School Shares Top Hairstyling Trends of 2016 – A Recap

The “Top Trends” in Hairstyling of 2016

Canadian Beauty College, your trusted hairstyling school in Mississauga, has put together a list of some of the hottest hairstyling trends that made waves in 2016.

The Bob

Thanks to this cut’s malleability, the bob will never go out of style. This classic cut offers versatility in texture with the option to wear it tightly coiled, wavy, or bone straight. It is also a relatively low-maintenance option for fine hair and can help add volume if the hair lacks body. It was the ultimate short do of 2016!

Freshly Washed ‘Glunge’ Hair

The ‘glunge’ hair trend consists of an undone texture, but with more of a premium and deluxe look. This style can be created by blowing out wet hair and applying serum to mid lengths and ends and then using a lift spray to dry the remaining hair. For shiny and smooth hair, use your straightener for one stroke through your hair – from root to tip – and then loosely wrap your hair around the hot plate for effortless waves. This will create those ‘glamorous’ beach waves you absolutely love, but with a ‘grunge’ finished look – a.k.a. the perfect ‘glunge’ look!

Wide Satin Bands

Thick ribbons and headbands are a great way to make a very simple look seem expensive and luxury. You can also use headbands that combine different textures and fabrics, such as velvet, satin and leather. They work well with soft kinks and dishevelled waves, which also includes the glunge trend, but makes the overall look appear more girly.

‘Just One Night’ Hair

These are temporary styles that can completely and immediately transform one’s look. For example, custom made wigs and hairpieces are becoming more and more popular, as they are available in many different varieties to suit every style. Some are even incorporating coloured extensions into their hair and using vibrant accessories like fun pompoms to make a very obvious statement.

Blow Out Is Back

Bouncy waves with volume were a popular choice in 2016. You can create this look by blowing out your hair with a vented radial brush. When your hair is dry, spray your hands with hairspray and run your fingers through your hair for structure, volume and lift.

Natural Hair

Whether you have flat, straight, big or curly hair, the undone hair was a big deal in 2016. Similar to the concept of wearing no makeup, more and more women are seeing the benefits of going au naturel. With busy lifestyles in the mix, spending minimal time on hair prep leaves plenty of time to take care of more important matters.

Lived-In Highlights

Moving away from the traditional blonde highlights, caramel and soft hair colours were a huge trend in 2016 to accentuate natural colours without making such a bold statement. For example, beautiful amber and nude soft tones do an excellent job of creating a feeling of luxury and an indulgent finish.
